September 14th
Due to fear, which dominates our lives because we are unconscious, we do not accept the way things are. We want our life to be different than it is. We want to control life, make it into what we hope will give us security, but never does, because the only security is in trusting that everything is as it should be.
We cannot control life, others, nature, ourselves even. And yet we are always trying to control life as if that is a possibility. It is the ego-mind and thought that seeks security and tries to control life to be on its own terms. We identify with our thoughts, which we are not. Our greatest attachment is to thought, unconscious thought. Thought keeps us acting out of ego, rather than from the depth of our being. Thought constricts our minds and bodies, keeps our world small and always leads sooner or later to more fear, fear that we think is real, like the ego, like thought itself. Because of our fear of being wrong, we learn so slowly or never learn the simple truth that there is no security anywhere, that security is only an illusion, something we pursue throughout our lives and yet never find outside the present moment. An illusion that thought leads and follows, for security is not the way of the world.
When we strive for security, we fight against the way the universe works, for the only security is in trust and in observing fear, attachment and the search for security. Is it possible for us to accept the world as it is, accept that there is no security out there and that we are searching for something that does not exist?
In looking for security we create conflict between what is, which is no security, and what we think we want, which is security that does not exist.
We cannot change the world, but we can observe our responses to the world, watch our resistance and our desire to control life around us in our desire for security. When we hope for security, we hope for something that does not exist and therefore we waste a lot of energy. But if we surrender to life, accept and trust that all is as it should be, then we do not waste energy.
